Friends who are familiar with Corgis know that there are two types of Corgis, Cardigan Welsh Corgis and Pembroke Welsh Corgis. Today, in addition to the above two types, the editor of Boqi will also introduce the third type of Corgi dog. Let us get acquainted with the Corgi family today.

 1. Cardigan Welsh Corgi and Pembroke Welsh Corgi
At least in 920 AD, the Welsh Corgi existed in the UK. It is one of the oldest dog breeds native to the UK. At first, the Corgi's ancestors were very important to herders in ancient times. Later, most of the land that originally belonged to the king and could not be used for grazing was gradually occupied by herdsmen. With enough pasture, herdsmen no longer need to rush to graze, and Corgis have obviously lost their former glory. However, there are still a few people who keep their corgis to visit their homes. These corgis were then mixed into the bloodlines of the rest of the shepherd dogs.

Cardigan Welsh Corgi

Cardigan and Pembroke have always had a close relationship as "brothers" Very close, they only started to be separated in modern times. There was no clear distinction between the Cardigan Welsh Corgi and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi before the 1930s. People think that they are the same dog breed, but have different blood types.
In 1928, their name was officially recognized by the British Kennel Club. Since the 1930s, Americans began to introduce Cardigan Welsh Corgis, and this dog gradually began to attract people's attention. Finally, in 1935, ACK recognized it as its own breed. In 1952, Cardigan and Pembroke appeared at dog shows for the first time under different names.
Comparing the two, the Pembroke Corgi has a shorter body, straighter and lighter leg bones, and better quality of back hair; however, in nature, the Pembroke Corgi appears to be anxious and easily impulsive. Not as docile as the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Moreover, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi’s tail has no harmful behavior and generally does not need to be tail docked.

2. Swedish Corgis
Originated in Sweden, the Swedish Corgis were mainly developed by Swedish farmers in the eighth century. It was originally used for herding cattle. In 1942, the breed was close to extinction and its number was very small. Dog experts made great efforts to revive this breed, and its number continued to increase in Sweden in 1948. The Swedish Club recognized it. In 1964, the Swedes changed its name to "Vasgotaspets", and it is now widely distributed in Sweden. Swedes believe that it is the ancestor of the Corgi in European countries. However, this statement has caused widespread controversy in Sweden. It is still uncertain whether the Corgi is the ancestor or descendant of the Corgi. The shape is obviously similar to the Welsh Corgi, but the coat color is more gentle. It was recognized by the Federal Dog Breeders Club in 1996.
